Stop the Six: Parent Leader Advocates for Funds to go to the Community

Parent leader Danielle Holcomb, and other members with Decarcerate KC, shared their testimonies during a KCMO public meeting on March 4, 2023, in opposition to a $6 million toward KC jail designs. The City of Kansas City, Mo has since voted against putting the $6 million toward a new jail; however, the money was still allotted to the KCPD budget.

It is impossible to be an effective advocate without first being an ally, yet when it comes to advocating for children, I have heard very little about the connection between the two. In fact, with advocacy for children, we promote the idea that parents are the experts and rarely mention children as a source of expertise - see the disconnect?

The deaf museum provides a realistic perspective to all who visit. One of the goals is to help provide a better understanding as to why throughout our history many education systems, medical systems, and even some hearing parents have failed to provide DHH child access to languages and communication.
