PLTI from Our Perspectives

Below, two PLTIKC program graduates and current members of the Recruitment and Selection Committee share their perspectives on why they completed the 21-week program and its impact on their lives and the way they approach advocacy. We are currently accepting applications for the 2025 cohort until August 23 or when we’ve reached capacity.

“PLTI was worth me investing my time because I was able to enhance my advocacy skills and create a network and community that I can forever be a part of.” - DiaShae Hargrove

Parent Leader DiaShae Hargrove

I wanted to join the PLTI cohort because I knew my children would start school soon and I intended to be completely involved in everything that had to do with their learning and development. With so much passion I knew I had to start somewhere and PLTI is the perfect program for parents wanting to be involved in the learning and development of the children and actually understanding the policies that had to do with childrens' learning and development.

What I loved most about PLTI was the abundance of support I received while being part of PLTI, I also loved the connections I made within the cohort. The networking night was my favorite event PLTI held and the food never disappointed me. PLTI was worth investing my time because I was able to enhance my advocacy skills. I was also able to create a network and community that I can forever be a part of. Other parents should join PLTI because it's not only supportive of families but also transforming. Any parent who is looking to further their parenting skills, their advocacy skills and their leadership skills should definitely join PLTI.

“The program pushed me out of my comfort zone, allowed me to fail with support and succeed with love.” - Christina Anderson

I knew PLTI KC was for me as soon as I left the Taste of PLTI info session. It ignited a passion within me to serve my community and families. PLTI gave me the tools, resources, and network that taught me how to fuel that passion.

The program pushed me out of my comfort zone, allowed me to fail with support and succeed with love. I found my voice as a parent and leader in different spaces. As a single mother, the commitment to the program was personal. This is because I knew the possibilities and doors that would open up for me and I didn’t have to sacrifice time away from my child. We looked forward to going to “class” every Wednesday night. It was truly a relief knowing that I could 100% commit to class because my child was a room away and that I didn’t have to figure out dinner or lunch for the next workday. I recommend this program to any parent, care giver, or educator that has the heart for children and wants to make a true difference and advocate for change with policy change. You won’t be disappointed!
